Slovenia Living Lab: Soil Health & Regenerative Practices
Regional Overview
Key Challenge
Led by the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia (KIS), this Living Lab focuses on the unique Central and Eastern European landscape. With a history of over 130 years in agricultural science, KIS brings deep expertise to the EcoFlourish project.
Maintaining soil fertility and managing pests in a changing climate while moving away from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
Soil Enrichment
Biological Protection
Nutritional Quality
We are testing various types of compost, green manures, and organic mulches to see which best improve soil structure and carbon storage.
Instead of chemicals, we use "biological agents" and smart pest traps to naturally protect berry crops like strawberries and blueberries.
We study how different irrigation and soil treatments affect the vitamins, sugars, and shelf-life of the fruit.
Deep-Earth Data
In the Slovenian LL, we use high-tech soil and plant sensors that monitor moisture, temperature, and nutrient dynamics in real-time.
User Testing
Farmers in Slovenia are helping us test our digital dashboards to make sure the data is easy to read and actually helps them save water and time.

The Growers
A public research institute that conducts basic and applied science to support local food safety.
We work directly with the Association of Haskap Berry Growers and the Agricultural and Forestry Chamber of Slovenia to ensure our research helps real families.
